Ocasio-Cortez Responds To Question About 2028 Presidential Bid

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., did not dismiss the possibility of a 2028 presidential run when asked by Fox News Digital about a viral video that sparked speculation she may be subtly launching a future campaign.

“I think what people should be most concerned about is the fact that Republicans are trying to cut Medicaid right now, and people’s healthcare is in danger. That’s really what my central focus is,” she claimed when Fox News asked her about a potential presidential bid.

President Donald Trump and Republicans have repeatedly said they aren’t cutting Medicaid or Medicare benefits but are focused on eliminating the waste, fraud, and abuses that Elon Musk’s DOGE team has reportedly found in both systems.

“This moment isn’t about campaigns, or elections, or about politics. It’s about making sure people are protected, and we’ve got people that are getting locked up for exercising their First Amendment rights. We’re getting 2-year-olds that are getting deported into cells in Honduras. We’re getting people that are about to get kicked off of Medicaid. That, to me, is most important,” Ocasio-Cortez said on Capitol Hill.

For the record, the administration isn’t ‘deporting 2-year-olds into cells’ in any country as part of its sweeping efforts to find and deport the millions of people who crossed illegally into the country under Joe Biden’s regime.

Ocasio-Cortez has been traveling across the country with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., on the “Fighting Oligarchy” tour—fueling speculation that she may be laying the groundwork for a presidential bid. Last week, her campaign account posted a video on X that intensified those rumors, featuring the four-term New York City lawmaker and prominent far-left ‘Squad’ member, declaring, “We are one.”

“I’m a girl from the Bronx,” Ocasio-Cortez said on a campaign-style stage in Idaho. “To be welcomed here in this state, all of us together, seeing our common cause, this is what this country is all about.”

Earlier this month, FiveThirtyEight founder and noted pollster Nate Silver suggested that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028. During a draft-style 2028 preview with FiveThirtyEight’s Galen Druke, Silver selected Ocasio-Cortez as his top pick to head the party’s presidential ticket.

“I think there’s a lot of points in her favor at this very moment,” Druke said, adding, “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has broad appeal across the Democratic Party.”

Social media users have been reposting Ocasio-Cortez’s video across the X platform, Fox noted, using it as evidence of her 2028 presidential ambitions. “Get ready America. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will almost undoubtedly run for president in 2028,” political reporter Eric Daugherty noted in response to the video.

As whispers circulate about Ocasio-Cortez’s bid for higher office, a Siena College poll of New York voters (April 14–16) shows Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s favorability slipping to 39%, while Ocasio-Cortez’s climbs to 47%.

A Siena College poll conducted April 14–16 shows New York voters’ views shifting back home: Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s favorability stands at 39%, while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s has climbed to 47%.

Schumer drew criticism in March from within his own party for backing the Republican, Trump-endorsed budget bill that prevented a government shutdown, prompting outrage and planned boycotts from congressional Democrats, Fox noted.

That intra-party discontent is mirrored in the poll’s numbers. At the same time, DNC Vice Chair David Hogg and his group, Leaders We Deserve, faced pushback from the DNC this week after investing $20 million to elect younger Democrats in safe House districts.

Ocasio-Cortez raised a staggering $9.6 million in the past three months—one of the largest hauls ever for a House member. Her campaign noted that the funds came from 266,000 individual donors, with an average contribution of just $21, Fox added.

“I cannot convey enough how grateful I am to the millions of people supporting us with your time, resources, & energy. Your support has allowed us to rally people together at record scale to organize their communities,” Ocasio-Cortez stated on social media.
